Ciena’s CN 3920 next-generation Ethernet service delivery switch can efficiently and cost-effectively deliver business and transport Ethernet services via fibre or copper connections. Itfeatures high-capacity switching fabric with Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports in a compact single rack unit (1RU). The efficient design enables the switch to be deployed to a broad range of customers in a wide variety of environments.

Based on Ciena’s tried and tested Carrier Ethernet technology, the CN 3920 combines low cost with the high capacity of Ethernet, resulting in the reliability, management, and service quality usually associated with SONET/SDH networking systems. The software architecture is based on a common service-aware operating system which is used in all Ciena service delivery and aggregation switches, providing operational efficiency and consistent system and service features.

The high-performance switching platform incorporates the latest innovations in Ethernet switching technologies, Ethernet control plane protocols, Ethernet encapsulation techniques and Carrier Ethernet OAM (operations, administration, and maintenance) mechanisms. The result is a state-of-the-art design that supports carrier-grade Layer 2 Virtual Private Networks (L2 VPNs), mission-critical data, high-speed Internet, and high-quality IPTV and VoIP services. The CN 3920 delivers sophisticated QoS (Quality of Service) capabilities, superior VLAN/virtual switching functions and robust management and performance monitoring features.
